An enzyme that breaks down protein, taken from fungi, bacteria or fruit.

- Used in enzyme washes and cleansing powders to loosen dull, dead surface cells for a smoother feel, and in smaller amounts in toners, pads and ampoules.
- How often
- Daily in a cleanser when its directions allow; leave-on ampoules, pads and spot care keep their own schedules, as do masks and peels.
