Willow bark
Willow bark, the tree bark with a natural link to salicylic acid.
- Tightens the look of pores
- Conditions skin
- Soothes
- Tones
- What it is
- The bark of the willow tree, from white willow (Salix alba) or black willow (Salix nigra), a plant source of salicylates, used as an extract or water.
- What it does
- Used in toners, pads, cleansers and wash-off packs to calm skin and keep pores looking clear; the extract is far milder than salicylic acid itself.
- How often
- Daily in many cleansers and leave-on formulas, often morning and evening. Start exfoliating treatments gradually; peeling pads, masks and blackhead treatments are usually a few times a week.
This is willow bark, a salicylate source, which is commonly avoided during pregnancy, so ask your doctor or midwife before using it. This isn't medical advice.
