about Water-based cleansers.

The right Korean face wash cleans thoroughly and leaves skin soft and comfortable. The rich Anua Heartleaf Quercetinol Pore Deep Cleansing Foam deep-cleans pores, while the COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser is the mild gel for a hydrating everyday wash.

Sensitive skin stays balanced with Beauty of Joseon's Green Plum line or ROUNDLAB's 1025 Dokdo line, and very dry skin is happier with a milk. At night, this is the second half of a double cleanse after your oil or balm; in the morning, it is often the only wash you need.

questions, answered.

Gel, foam or milk cleanser: which suits my skin?

Gels feel fresh on oily and combination skin, and the Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser is made for sensitive skin too. Soft foams suit most skin; the Klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser leaves sensitive skin moist. Milks such as the ROUNDLAB 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Milk are kindest to dry skin. Whichever you pick, your face should feel clean and supple after rinsing.

Do I need to cleanse in the morning?

A quick wash with a gentle water-based cleanser such as the COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser is enough for most people, and dry skin can get away with water alone. The oil cleanse belongs to the evening, when there is sunscreen and makeup to take off. If you use a strong treatment overnight, a morning wash also clears away whatever is left of it.

Should a cleanser foam a lot?

No. Lather tells you about the surfactants and nothing about how well a cleanser works, and the foamiest ones are often the ones that leave skin tight. Low-foam gels, creams and milks, such as the ROUNDLAB 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Milk, clean just as well. Judge a cleanser by how your face feels afterwards and by whether the steps that follow sink in.
