what it does.

Twenty quiet minutes with a concentrated layer on your skin, and a routine that feels like something you did, not something you rushed.

Skip it and: you lose the step that makes a routine feel worth doing.

how to use it.

Masks come in more than one format, and they are not used the same way. Find yours.

A sheet mask

A soaked cloth sheet you unfold onto your face.

  1. Unfold onto clean skin and smooth out the air pockets.
  2. Leave it fifteen to twenty minutes, not until it dries out.
  3. Pat the leftover essence in; do not rinse.
  4. Follow with moisturizer to seal it.

A cream, gel or overnight mask

A cream or gel in a jar or tube: sleeping masks and overnight packs.

  1. Finish your evening routine first: this goes on last, over your moisturizer.
  2. Take about twice what you would use of a moisturizer and press it on in a thin, even layer.
  3. Leave it on overnight. There is nothing to peel off and nothing to rinse.
  4. Wash your face as usual in the morning, then carry on with your morning routine.

A wash-off mask

Clay, mud, peel-off and scrub masks.

  1. Spread an even layer over clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area.
  2. Leave it the time the label gives, ten to fifteen minutes for most, and never until it cracks.
  3. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
  4. Follow with your toner and moisturizer: this step takes something away, so put something back.

how often.

Typically one or two evenings a week. Follow the product's own directions; some overnight masks are made for nightly use.
