Concealers

about Concealers.

Korean concealers for the jobs a cushion or foundation does not finish: under-eye shadows, the marks left by old blemishes and the occasional spot. Etude House makes a skin-hugging liquid that covers blemishes and evens out tone, and Hanskin a moisturizing, semi-matte cream that covers dark circles and blemishes.

A little goes a long way: thin layers keep the cover close to the skin and put it only where you need it. For under-eye shadows, pick half a shade lighter than your base with a warm or peach tone; for marks, match your base exactly.

questions, answered.

Do I put concealer on before or after cushion?

After. Cushion or foundation goes on first and evens most of the face out on its own, then concealer covers only what is left: under-eye shadows, marks, the odd spot. Working the other way round means you push most of the concealer around while you apply the base. Pat it in with a fingertip, build thinly, and set only where you crease.

How do I choose a concealer shade?

Two rules, depending on what you are covering. For under-eye shadows, go about half a shade lighter than your base and choose a peach or warm tone, which counteracts blue and gray. For blemishes and marks on the face itself, match the exact shade of your base, because anything lighter reads as a pale patch in daylight.

Are Korean concealers full coverage?

They cover well while sitting close to the skin. The Etude House liquid and the Hanskin cream are both made to cover blemishes, and the Hanskin cream covers dark circles too. If you want more coverage still, layer two thin passes with a moment between them and press powder only over the areas that move, rather than applying one thick layer.
